Kidney Diet

Kidneys play a vital role in our bodies. They filter toxins from our blood, regulate water balance, and produce hormones. If they fail to function properly, then it leads to kidney disease. The good news is that we can prevent or treat kidney diseases through proper nutrition.

Kidneys are responsible for filtering waste products from the blood and producing urine. This helps us eliminate toxic substances from the body.

A healthy diet plays a crucial role in maintaining kidney health. There are certain foods that should be avoided in ESRD(End-Stage Renal Disease). These include caffeine, alcohol, sugar, salt, processed meats, red meat, fried food, dairy products, and sugary drinks.

Healthy Kidney Diet

1. Healthy Kidney Diet

The kidneys play a major role in maintaining our body's homeostasis (balance). When we eat foods rich in protein, they help build strong bones and muscles. However, if we consume too much protein, the excess may cause damage to the kidneys. Therefore, it is recommended to have a balanced diet containing adequate amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fat.

2. Protein

Protein is composed of amino acids, which are the building blocks of muscle and connective tissue. A high-protein diet helps maintain bone density and muscle mass. In addition, it provides energy for daily activities. Sometimes, excessive proteins can be hard on the kidneys.

3. Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are the primary fuel source for the human body. They provide energy for daily activities and are stored in the liver and muscles. Foods rich in carbohydrates include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and dairy products. If you're a CKD or AKD patient, carbohydrate is very essential, carb veggies like potatoes, sweet potatoes, or some other root veggies can be hard for CKD or AKD patients due to their high potassium content.

4. Fat

Fat is an essential component of the human body. It serves as a storage unit for vitamins and hormones. It also aids in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and maintains skin integrity.

5. Water

Water is necessary for the proper functioning of the body. It regulates blood pressure, keeps the brain and nerves working properly, and removes toxins from the body.

6. Fiber

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that cannot be digested by humans. It is found in whole grains, beans, peas, lentils, oats, and some fruits. Fiber promotes regularity and prevents constipation.

7. Sodium

Sodium is a mineral that is present in salt. Too much sodium intake can lead to water retention, hypertension, and heart disease.

Kidney Diet- For Creatinine 1.00-1.50mg/dl

As we know that this level of creatinine means there's mild dysfunction. This dysfunction occurs due to diabetic nephropathy, AKD due to surgeries in the urinary bladder system. Some patients have raised creatinine due to coronary angiography, where the dye affects the nephrons while filtering the blood.
